Dance Box Story

Photo of the Pink Dance Box Truck, out first mobile store.

Russ Duncan’s real passion was Dance Box. Around 1969, she bought an old mail truck, painted it hot pink, stocked it with dance supplies, and drove it to studios across the Lower Mainland. At the same time, the Duncan family’s TV room was turned into a store that overflowed into a shed. It wasn’t until the late 1970s that the first "real" store was opened on Austin Avenue in Coquitlam, B.C. The Langley store followed close behind. Russ ran Dance Box with her usual flair and spirit while building a reputation as the go-to person for pointe shoe fittings. She proudly fitted and photographed thousands of “first pairs”.
